Dr. Michael Nelson
Dr. Nelson grew up on a farm in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. He studied undergraduate science at the University of Alberta. After this, he attended the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and received his Optometry degree in 1994. He then went to the University of Alabama School of Optometry where he completed a residency in family practice and low vision. From 200-2003, Dr. Nelson was the president for the Manitoba Association of Optometrists (MAO) and also served as the continuing education chair. In 2011, he was the co-chair at the Canadian Association of Optometrists Congress in Winnipeg. He was co-awarded the Manitoba Optometrist of the Year in 2014 for his work to legislate Manitoba Optometrists ability to write medical prescriptions to treat eye disorders. Currently, he serves as the President of the Canadian Association of Optometrists.
